Happy Sunday π
This week has been a whirl wind for my Instagram page! I was featured on two amazing accounts and one of the pictures included our coffee bar table that Justin and I made. I got tons of questions where I got it and how we made it so I thought it would be a perfect time to give a tutorial on how we built it! Of course since its already done I don’t have pictures of the building process like I would normal like to have in a blog post, but I will do my best to talk you through it π

Before building this table you will need to decide what size your finish product will be. Our table measures 40” long by 34” high. You can use this tutorial to make any size table but here is how we made ours.
Step 1:
First we made all our cuts and gave the wood a good sanding.
4 Legs: 32 1/2”
6 2×4 Short Braces: 10 1/2”
6 2×4 Long Braces: 30”
3 2×6 Table Top: 40”
2 2×8 shelf: 30”
Tip: When you are picking out your wood make sure you are selecting straight pieces. Any twists in the wood will make this project difficult.
Step 2:
Once all the wood was cut and sanded we started putting the frame together. We took two legs and attached the three short braces, then repeated this step for the other two legs.
Tip: If you have a Kreg Jig it will make your life much easier, at the time we do not have this tool so we manually drilled out the pockets.
Step 3:
Once we had the ends of the table we attached the 6 long braces to complete the frame.
Tip: When attaching the braces you will need to know what height you want your shelves to be. Our top shelf is 14 1/2” from the top of the frame and our second shelf is 10 1/2” from the top shelf.
Step 4:
We took the 2×8 pieces that were cut to 30″ and put them in the frame for the shelves. We had to sand down the sides of the 2×8’s for a perfect fit and screwed them to the 10 1/2″ braces.
Step 5:
Next we were ready to attach the top boards of the table. We sanded down the top of the frame to make sure that it was flat, that way the boards would sit nice and even. When attaching the 2×6’s for the top we screwed them down through the boards to the top of the frame. We also rounded the edges of the top for a more finished look and thats it!
Step 6:
I wiped down the whole table with a damp cloth to remove any excess dust. I used two coats of simply white paint by Benjamin Moore and let it completely dry before distressing.
Tip: You also could stain the table instead of painting π
Susie likes to sit right in front of my camera π
Step 7:
I used 100 grit sand paper to give the table a distress look an let the natural wood show through. I focused on the edges and knots in the wood.
Thats it!!
Hope this finds you well and please reach out with any questions I am happy to help!

Hi! I love this table and going to make it very soon. I just have one question. The 2×8, says shelf. You made 2 cuts 30β long. But you have 2 shelves? Did you use only 1 2×8 per shelf?
