Media Room: Part 1

By on May 22, 2017

Hi friends!!

We are in the process of redoing our front room and I wanted to give an update as we are slowly transforming it from a standard living space to a modern media room. I say media room because right now it will serve as a comfortable lounging TV/gaming room but in the future we have plans for it to be a playroom. If you don’t know already Justin and I are big TV and movie buffs but I DO NOT like going to the movies. So having another space to watch Netflix just made sense.

We started painting the room a few months back, it was a light brown with a dark purple accent wall. I painted all the walls BM Simply White with intensions of adding a shiplap accent wall. The shiplap wall went in about a month ago along with the window trim. Once the walls were done I started planning out the décor. I wanted a neutral color palette for this room so I went with white, grey, green and natural wood. What I love about a neutral color palette is I can always add and change out a pop of color easily with out needing to fully redecorate. So the hunt was on for the perfect couch. We really wanted a comfortable sectional you would just sink into. We found the perfect set from Raymour and Flanigan. It is comfortable yet a stylish grey/white color, the first time I sat on it, I sank right into it and was sold!

For décor I have not added much yet but I had my eye on the botanical prints from Magnolia and when I saw one go up for sale on a local Facebook yard sale page I knew I had to have them! I purchased one from a local who bought the set of 4 but only had space for 3 and I purchased the second from Magnolia.com. They fit perfect on either side of our front window!

I also got a large clock from Hobby Lobby months ago on clearance. It was black but nothing a little white spray paint couldn’t fix. I wasn’t sure how the white clock on a white wall would look but so far I love it!

Lastly (for now) I got the Threshold natural wood floor lamp from Target, it matches perfectly the wood to the Magnolia prints.

That is what is done so far, here are the plans to finish 🙂

Right now we are building a double wide barn door for the inside of this room! This will mainly stay open and cover the wall next to the stairs. As of now (literally right this second) both doors are built and tonight (hopefully) we will stain them and then hang them this week. I am going to stain them the same color as our kitchen table to hopefully match the natural wood look in this room.

(Here is a preview of the one we finished yesterday, this is the right side and the one Justin just finished is the left. They will be latched together to create the look of one big door.)

We are getting new carpet as well! The previous owners of our house had a cat and for whatever reason the carpet in this room is stained and just gross. So we picked out this carpet from Lowes. I can’t wait for it to be installed and have clean fresh carpet!

For now that is all that is decided, we still need to build a TV unit with storage, get end tables, a coffee table and more décor but just the changes happening in the next couple weeks will make such a difference!

Stay tuned 🙂

Kitchen Reno 2.0: Idea Board

By on May 15, 2017

Hii Friends!

I am so excited to share we are entering part two of our Kitchen reno! This time last year we were researching the topic of kitchen cabinet paint! After A LOT of contemplation, we decided to leave it to the professionals and I found an amazing company Thrifty Gypsy owned by Whitney. If you are in the local Philly area you should contact her, she is AMAZING! I am often asked how did you find a contractor you can trust, well technically Justin found her! On day Justin was talking to a friend at work and for whatever reason mentioned we were looking to redo our Kitchen and have our cabinets painted. Greg says, my girlfriend owns a business painting cabinets, oh and happens to live in the town next to you. What are the odds, now you have to understand Justin work is not a typical office environment where you work with the same people every day and get to know them well. He works with different people sometimes every day and he was only working with Greg for two days so in our eyes it was meant to be. I immediately contact Whitney and had her come out for a quote. We instantly connected and I knew I found someone special!  So last June she painted our cabinets white with a glaze and installed a backsplash. I LOVED it! It was perfect and exactly what I wanted.

DIY Farmhouse Table

By on May 1, 2017

Hii Friends!!

Wow it has been a LONG time since I have been on here and that is because once we found out that Justin’s leg was not healing as fast as it should have our home projects stopped. Then he had a second surgey and healed quickly enough for us to kick it in high gear and complete as many projects as we could before he went back to work. That left little time to sit on the couch let alone write a post haha. Also with my little break from blogging I have decided you will also start to see some lifestyle posts as well as baking/recipes! As you all know I was diagnosed with Celiacs last year so I would love to share with all of you my learnings and how I eat my favorite foods and treats with a slight modifications. 🙂 I will get more into that in another post because this post is about our GORGEOUS farmhouse style table!! I have wanted a table like this for years! Since we decided against having a dining room I was SOO happy when we decided to finally build a custom table to fit in our kitchen!! So to backtrack a little, you heard me right we do not have a dining room and here is why, growing up my household (and others) a dining room was used once maybe twice a year. It was set as a formal dining space and the kitchen was used most because it was practical. Luckily Justin and I both agreed we would rather use the space instead of having a formal space we just looked at. It is now our wine bar room and the fact is our “dining room” is not an ideal size and the space we have in our kitchen would fit a good size table anyway. There are other reasons but maybe that is for another post as well. 🙂

Happy Sunday friends!!

I have been itching for another DIY project so after gathering some inspiration from my Instagram friends I decided to FINALLY paint the dresser I picked up last summer at a yard sale! I decided on a two-toned look after seeing Kari from @littleblessedfarmhouse dresser on Instagram, I am still not sure where this dresser will be going but at least it is now Havrilla home approved!
