Media Room: Part 1

By on May 22, 2017

Hi friends!!

We are in the process of redoing our front room and I wanted to give an update as we are slowly transforming it from a standard living space to a modern media room. I say media room because right now it will serve as a comfortable lounging TV/gaming room but in the future we have plans for it to be a playroom. If you don’t know already Justin and I are big TV and movie buffs but I DO NOT like going to the movies. So having another space to watch Netflix just made sense.

We started painting the room a few months back, it was a light brown with a dark purple accent wall. I painted all the walls BM Simply White with intensions of adding a shiplap accent wall. The shiplap wall went in about a month ago along with the window trim. Once the walls were done I started planning out the décor. I wanted a neutral color palette for this room so I went with white, grey, green and natural wood. What I love about a neutral color palette is I can always add and change out a pop of color easily with out needing to fully redecorate. So the hunt was on for the perfect couch. We really wanted a comfortable sectional you would just sink into. We found the perfect set from Raymour and Flanigan. It is comfortable yet a stylish grey/white color, the first time I sat on it, I sank right into it and was sold!

For décor I have not added much yet but I had my eye on the botanical prints from Magnolia and when I saw one go up for sale on a local Facebook yard sale page I knew I had to have them! I purchased one from a local who bought the set of 4 but only had space for 3 and I purchased the second from Magnolia.com. They fit perfect on either side of our front window!

I also got a large clock from Hobby Lobby months ago on clearance. It was black but nothing a little white spray paint couldn’t fix. I wasn’t sure how the white clock on a white wall would look but so far I love it!

Lastly (for now) I got the Threshold natural wood floor lamp from Target, it matches perfectly the wood to the Magnolia prints.

That is what is done so far, here are the plans to finish 🙂

Right now we are building a double wide barn door for the inside of this room! This will mainly stay open and cover the wall next to the stairs. As of now (literally right this second) both doors are built and tonight (hopefully) we will stain them and then hang them this week. I am going to stain them the same color as our kitchen table to hopefully match the natural wood look in this room.

(Here is a preview of the one we finished yesterday, this is the right side and the one Justin just finished is the left. They will be latched together to create the look of one big door.)

We are getting new carpet as well! The previous owners of our house had a cat and for whatever reason the carpet in this room is stained and just gross. So we picked out this carpet from Lowes. I can’t wait for it to be installed and have clean fresh carpet!

For now that is all that is decided, we still need to build a TV unit with storage, get end tables, a coffee table and more décor but just the changes happening in the next couple weeks will make such a difference!

Stay tuned 🙂

Happy New Year!!

Can you believe it is 2017 already!!! Time is just flying! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with friends and family! I know I did, for the first time ever I took the week between Christmas and New Years off! It was the perfect staycation full of home projects. The first project was a DIY coffee bar table to display my Keurig, Rae Dunn and other farmhouse decor! We built the table (with some modifications) from an Ana White plan. The table was meant for a large open wall we have in our Kitchen, a wall that I have struggled with since we moved in. I just couldn’t find the perfect piece of furniture, so why not build one 🙂 Once this table was complete we added to our kitchen under my mug rack and shelves, but it was still missing something. Shiplap!

Happy Sunday!!

I am so exited to finally share with you our completed powder room! As many of you know Justin broke his leg 4 months ago. It just so happen to be the weekend after we tore apart our bathroom and started to shiplap. We were only about 1/3 of the way done before the accident so we were both forced to put this project on hold. Now 4 months later it is finally COMPLETE!!

This week I am doing a tutorial on how we made our DIY industrial shelves, super easy but not super cheap!

One thing that I have struggled with and I know it is a pain point for a lot of people is wall paint colors. How do you pick the perfect color to go with your décor? You have one shot to get it right and if it’s wrong.. ugh well it’s a lot of time and money wasted! So I am going to take you room by room and talk about the colors I picked (good and bad!) and why the colors in my house could look completely different in someone else’s! Hopefully this helps when you are picking out your next wall color. ☺️
